 Makoto Mizuhara |
Makoto Mizuhara is a hardworking student who is sent by Ifurita to El-Hazard. There he is forced by the Royal House of Rostaria to impersonate the kidnapped Princess Fatora. Makoto's superpower is the ability to inferface with the ancient El-Hazard devices. Makoto has a crush on Nanami but ends up deeply in love with Ifurita. Makoto is a dynamic character who goes from being shy and unassertive to a fearless hero. In the second series he discovers a second Ifurita living in a hidden valley. With her help, he defeats Kalia and the Trigger for Destruction./1-1 Makoto is a character card in Ani-Mayhem Set 0. "I won't put on girl's clothing and pretend I'm a woman." "Yeah, she's crazy. In the TV series, Katsuhiko Jinnai tampers with Makoto's science experiment, sending them to El-Hazard. There Makoto and Fujisawa are suspected to be spies by Londs, but Rune Venus has them released. A romance between Rune Venus and Makoto seems emminant. Episode 2 ends with Makoto dicovering his superpower when he interfaces with the mysterious Orb of the Kings. Then, Makoto discovers Rune Venus in the bath talking to a puppet. Makoto and Fujisawa save a nearly village from Jinnai's cruel tactics. Afterwards, Makoto, Alielle, and Fujisawa set out to find the 3 Great Priestesses who may hold the key to their returning home. They have no luck with the priestesses and end up no closer to returning home than before. After an unsuccessful search of historic ruins, Makoto makes a new friend in the form of Ura the Armor Cat. Makoto believes that Ifurita is not evil, but is being coersed by Jinnai. Together with Rune Venus, Makoto can activate the "Chamber of Promises"./1 |
 Nanami Jinnai |
Nanami is the beautiful high school girl who's always looking to make some money. She likes Makoto and she and Shayla-Shayla compete for his attention. Her superpower is the ability to see through illusion, making her instrumental is the defeat of the Phantom Tribe./1-1 Nanami is a character card in Ani-Mayhem Set 0. |
Nanami's feelings for Makoto are made apparent to the viewer early on. She is running a successful bento (box lunch) business at the high school when she is transported to El-Hazard. There, Nanami becomes an dishwasher at a restaurant, and later opens her own restaurant. At first she percieves Rune Venus as a rival for Makoto's attention, but during their captivity and escape from the Bugrom she and Rune become friends./1 |
 Masamichi Fujisawa |
藤沢 先生(Fujisawa-sensei) is the alcoholic, chain-smoking math teacher at Shinonome High School. His superpower is superhuman strength and agility, but his "cursed gift" requires that he stay sober. He gains (and then tries to avoid) Miz's affection, but eventually accepts her. Fujisawa leaves Miz standing at the alter once, but at the end of the 2nd OAV them are wed./1-1 Fujisawa is a character card in Ani-Mayhem Set 0. "What's this? In the TV series, Mr. Fujisawa is the history teacher. His love of mountain climbing is much more prevalent is this series. In El-Hazard, Fujisawa saves a town by returning water to it by destroying a Bugrom dam. Then, Fujisawa goes on a date with water priestess Miz Mishtal.  Katsuhiko Jinnai |
Jinnai is Nanami's big brother. He views himself as the "god-descended" "ruler of Shininome High School" and Makoto as his "lifelong rival." Jinnai is set on destroying Makoto. His superpower is the ability to communicate with the Bugrom. He becomes Queen Diva's military commander and leads the Bugrom invasion of Rostaria. Jinnai activates Ifurita and controls her because he is the master of the Power Key Staff. After his intial defeat and loss of Ifurita, he discovers another Demon Goddess, Kalia. School President Jinnai is in trouble for mismanaging the school festival funding. He unjustly complains that Makoto's science project is noisy and dangerous. Jinnai sabotages the machine sending Mr. Fujisawa, Nanami, Makoto, and himself to El-Hazard. Upon arrival, Jinnai is taken captive by the Bugrom. After a "clever" escape, Jinnai and Deva team up. First Jinnai cuts off the water to a town, then burns it halfway to the ground. Then he demands that the townpeople buy drinking water from him or he will burn it all the way down. Later Jinnai attempts to defeat Makoto in a game of Pettin but is foiled after Shayla-Shayla, Alielle, & Fujisawa discover he is cheating by using magnets. Jinnai then unsuccessfully uses starvation and tunneling tactics. But things take a turn when Jinnai becomes master of the Demon God Ifurita, kidnaps Nanami and Rune Venus, and gains control of the Eye of God./1 "My ice cream!" "I'm innocent! And even if I'm not, I order you to treat me like I am." |
